The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has issued a Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Number 18 of 2022 concerning Conservation Areas in Waters in the Eastern Region of Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province. Thus, the conservation area was initiated in 2007 by the Bintan Regency Government, then the preparation process for the proposal was continued by the Riau Islands Provincial Government since 2018 accompanied by a submission through the Riau Islands Governor's letter number 556/1683/DKPSET/2021, dated 31 August 2021, already has a strong legal basis to be managed in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Furthermore, in accordance with the direction of the Director General of Marine Spatial Planning in determining Regional Conservation Areas, the Governor of the Riau Islands needs to do the following :

Appointing the conservation area management organizational unit in accordance with the provisions and laws and regulations ;

Prepare and stipulate a conservation area management plan document ;

Carry out socialization activities to the community; and carry out conservation area management activities in accordance with the documents.
In order to implement this target, it is necessary to immediately carry out a series of activities to introduce the Bintan MPA to stakeholders, both in the Riau Islands Province and in the national environment. This Bintan MPA socialization activity to stakeholders aims to provide an understanding of the existence of the Bintan MPA among the community, stakeholders utilizing Bintan MPA resources, stakeholders who have main tasks and functions related to the area, socio-economic aspects, culture and Provincial Government, City/Regency, District and Village, as well as stakeholders from the Government and the international environment. This activity will be held in an integrated manner under the leadership of the Department of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Riau Islands Province.

As for the Dissemination of the Bintan MPA, several inputs that need attention and challenges in effective management in the future, namely:

The need for signs for the core zone in the conservation area in order to minimize violations.

The need for active participation of stakeholders in disseminating information about the Bintan MPA and the need for joint supervision of the Bintan MPA.

The need for a monitoring SOP and a supervisory schedule involving the PSDKP Satwas, Danposal, Polairud, Pokmaswas, Tourism Operators, Kepri Port BUP and the community involved in supervision who can later report to the SUOP Bintan MPA when there is a violation activity.

Build a digital system related to the existence of the Bintan Conservation Area for all users who carry out activities in the Bintan MPA.
